SatExpander SatX™
World's most bandwidth efficient satellite technology
SatExpander's SatX™ is the 3rd generation satellite transmission technology that makes your video and data reach their destinations faster, more efficiently and more cost effectively than any other available technology. It is the technology built into SatExpander's modems, modulators and demodulators. SatExpander SatX, in conjunction with SatExpander DUET band reuse software, supports satellite data transfer rates of up to 850Mbps.
Speed/Bandwith Efficiency
Resilence
Satellite modulators and demodulators with embedded SatExpander
technology can typically achieve an increase in spectral efficiency of 40% to 60% compared with DVB-S2, the current industry standard for satellite transmission. Using SatExpander modems equipped with SatExpander's DUET software-based band reuse technology, the increase is as much as 100% with transmission speeds from 100 Kbps to 730 Mbps over a 72 MHz transponder, making SatExpander's equipment the world's most flexible and versatile satellite transmission solution.
Satellite bandwidth availability and costs continue to pose significant challenges. By delivering the most efficient use of bandwidth, SatExpander reduces operating costs by letting satellite communications organizations transfer more data over a fixed amount of bandwidth, lease less bandwidth to handle communications that would take far more with other solutions and use smaller antennas to meet communications needs. Also contributing to cost savings are intelligent management of fade margin (ACM) and transmitted power (AUPC) to optimize bandwidth usage, simultaneous video and data over the same carrier and very high resilience for all types of signal interference.
Satellite transmission can be compromised by signal interference, jamming, weather fluctuations, phase noise and saturation. SatExpander SatX™ handles each of these types of transmission problems in the most effective ways possible.
Resilience for Interference and Jamming
While radio interference can be a problem that degrades signal quality anywhere in the world, frequency jamming is also becoming a more prevalent problem for satellite communications. This is especially true in developing countries. While it is not always possible to eliminate all jamming signals, SatExpander's SatX™ unblocks frequencies with up to 15dB greater interference than DVB-S2 based equipment. That kind of jamming resilience means that your signal is much more likely to reach its destination no matter where in the world you operate.
Resilience for Weather Fluctuations
SatExpander's SatX™ intelligently manages fade margin as weather conditions change resulting in even greater improvement in bandwidth efficiency. Under normal operating conditions, using SatExpander SatX™, one can allocate fade margin for regular transmission. When weather conditions change, threatening the quality of the link, SatExpander SatX™ can automatically adjust the ratio of fade margin that is used for normal transmission and weather-related interference mitigation to ensure optimized bandwidth utilization and QoS.
Phase Noise and Saturation
Satellite communications equipment that incorporates SatExpander SatX™ outperforms DVB-S2 based equipment when comparing phase noise and saturation.
Although the DVB-S2 standard has been around for nearly a decade, many satellite service providers have not yet migrated their transmission equipment from DVB-S. Although replacing expensive equipment is often a factor in these decisions, a deeper concern is investing in new equipment that will soon be outdated in a quickly evolving industry.
Satellite modems, modulators and demodulators equipped with SatExpander SatX™ technology are an ideal solution for the economics of the satellite services industry. Backward compatibility with existing standards such as DVB-S and DVB-S2 means that you can keep your existing infrastructure when you upgrade to the speed and resilience of SatExpander SatX™. Additionally, SatExpander SatX™-based equipment is designed to support High Throughput Satellites (HTS) and can migrate to new standards and add features through software updates which can even be implemented over the air (OTA).
This flexibility, together with huge savings in satellite bandwidth costs, deliver a return on investment for SatExpander SatX™-based equipment a matter of weeks, not years.
