The challenge is the complexity of the migration process. Most satellite transmission equipment is based on rigid architecture (chipset), leading to substantial investment in hardware replacement and service interruption. Therefore, the majority of satellite links continue to operate with old technology.
This challenge led SatExpander to develop a software-defined architecture that is at the core of the SatExpander SatX-2 waveform. Both are based on high performance DSP/FPGA which make it possible to perform maintenance, add features and even upgrade to the newest waveform remotely Over-the-Air – using existing satellite bandwidth.
SatExpander SatX-2 Enhancements
As the next generation successor to SatExpander SATX, the industry’s spectral efficiency waveform leader, SatExpander SATX-2 enables up to 45% higher spectral efficiency compared with DVB-S2, and typically 17% higher than DVB-S2X.

The new SatExpander SATX-2 waveform, like all SatExpander features and options, is a software upgradable option that can be implemented Over-the-Air (OTA) on all SatExpander satellite modems, modulators and demodulators.
The technical advantages of SatExpander SATX-2 rely on advanced features including unsurpassed 2% Roll-off-Factor (with modes enabling 5% and up to 20% ROF, as well), enhanced spectral efficiency algorithms and improved tolerance for signal impairments and all types of interference.
